We have a large tree on the corner of our property that at about this time of each year, it loses every leaf on it. If the wind blows from the north, the leaves land in the pool, but if the wind is from the south, then they go all over the sidewalk.

The wind has been blowing south and so consequently, I was out on the street a day or so ago raking up five large rubbish bags of leaves. As I was raking away, a car pulled up to ask me if I knew the directions to the local shopping center. My first thought was why don’t you just turn on Google Maps? but being a nice guy, I happily obliged.

They were an older couple and they thanked me and were on their way. A simple answer by someone who, at that moment, knew more than they did, helped them get to where they needed to go.

As I continued raking, it got me thinking about life and business and specifically, trying to get to where you desire to. Right now, whatever it is that you do not know, someone else does. Just last week, I caught up with a guy for coffee who had some things in his business that he wanted to chat through. I was honored to help him, as I know that there is nothing better than being able to help others.

Many people have been generous with their time over the years for me, so I am only too happy to oblige.

But don’t let what you don’t know stop you from moving forward. There is a lot of help out there, and if it is not available through your contacts in your local community, then it is available via books and even Youtube.

You will find that the older you get, the less you will realize you know, and so you need the help of others.

I read an article a few years ago that stated that people would rather not know something than ‘look silly’ asking someone for help. How sad is that? The person with the knowledge will generally only be too happy to help. The saddest part is that most people will never ask.

So where do you need help? Get out there and seek those who can help you.

Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.
Proverbs 11:14
